Currently for my course work I am focusing on intense emotions and that of fear and despair. I began by researching the psychology behind these emotions and found quotes from literature that express such a feeling. Following this I found artists which I felt defined anxiety. Francis Bacon’s “Study After Velazquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X” has inspired me to design this dress pictured. I feel his jagged angry brush strokes create a cage in which one is trapped in a the feeling of despair which I have tried to recreate in many tangled strips of the skirt.
